$3,000.00

Australian Aboriginal bark-style painting on masonite in ochre, charcoal and kaolin with natural binder.
This work was painted ca. 1989. Acquired personally by us at Nambara Art Center, Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory, Australia, in 1990.

Its meaning was explained to us by the artist, Dhuwarrwarr Marika, in person. The explanation began at a normal conversational volume gradually becoming quieter until it was inaudible, the artist's technique for being hospitable but not revealing information only permitted to be revealed to senior clan members. The art advisor summarized the explanation as relating to Milyurr, a sacred water source.

The photo shows the works and the artist, Dhuwarrwarr Marika stand next to it.
35.5" x 23.5" #AGW812
