Small ikat (jaspe) stripes on ground. Silk embroidered seam (randa) between the two back-strap woven panels. Ca.1930-1950. Checkerboard trim 3-D reversed human heads, dark brown hair streaming downward as an overall fringe. Part of a much larger piece that bordered the bottom of a tunic or poncho.

Tubular knit stem weave in alpaca wool.

Pre-Columbian textile fragment from Chancay culture, coastal Peru, ca. 1300 AD. Woven cotton painted with a pattern of interlocking up-and-down bird images. Acquired in 1985 from Doug Dawson’s Casa del Rio Gallery, Chicgo, IL. Estimated value at that time, per J. Douglas Dawson was US$450.00 to US$550.00. Dawson speculated that it was part of a much larger textile, one that might have been used to hang on a wall or as a ceremonial covering. Provenance in hand.
