$800.00

Pre-Columbian textile fragment from Chancay culture, coastal Peru, ca. 1300 AD. Woven cotton painted with a pattern of interlocking up-and-down bird images. Acquired in 1985 from Doug Dawson’s Casa del Rio Gallery, Chicgo, IL. Estimated value at that time, per J. Douglas Dawson was US$450.00 to US$550.00. Dawson speculated that it was part of a much larger textile, one that might have been used to hang on a wall or as a ceremonial covering. Provenance in hand. The fragment is 32” x 14”, mounted on a 40” x 20” fabric panel. #AGW063
