Hopi Indians, who have occupied the three-mesa area in what is now Arizona for generations, clearly qualify as aboriginal to that area of North America.

Hopi Indians are extremely creative, especially in the fields of jewelry-making, basketry and pottery. They were among the first to perfect silver-on-silver overlay. The area also was the home of pottery pioneer, Nampeyo. Hopi coil baskets and wicker plaques are world-famous.

This page presents other folk art examples from the indigenous peoples of the Hopi Tribe.
